NH Food Bank #GivingTuesday 2019

Feeding the programs that feed the hungry.

A fundraising campaign for NH Food Bank

The problem:

As a certified nursing assistant for 30 years, Mary was used to taking care of people. But after having a stroke, the tables turned.

“I was taking care of people practically all my life,” she said. “And then I had to have someone take care of me. It was really hard.”

Since the stroke, Mary can’t work. On disability, she’s not able to afford the food she needs. But she gets some help from a local food pantry.

“The food I get at the pantry is a big help to me. I wouldn’t be able to afford it otherwise,” she said.

Mary is used to working, but for now, the pantry is helping fill in the gaps.

“I never expected to need this help,” she said. “But I’m glad it’s there now.”

How can you help?

Food insecurity can affect anyone at any time.  Mary is among many others who live with the fear of not always knowing when and where their next meal is coming from.  This #GivingTuesday, our primary goal is to spread awareness of food insecurity even further throughout our state. In New Hampshire alone, 1 in 9 men, women and children are hungry.  For every $1 donated the NH Food Bank can provide nearly 2 meals to someone in need. We hope you'll consider helping us to reach our goal of providing at least 1,000 meals.

About Giving Tuesday:

Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. Since its inaugural year in 2012, #GivingTuesday has become a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy with events throughout the year and a growing catalog of resources."
