NBP Paddling Outrigger Canoe (OC-6) Campaign

A fundraising campaign for Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy, Inc

The NBP Paddling program has an exciting opportunity but we will need some help to pull it off.  A used unlimited OC-6 has become available for sale in Clearwater.

Why is this a big deal?

- Used Unlimited canoes don’t go on the market very often & this one is in our backyard.

- An Unlimited canoe makes logistics SO much easier than the traditional “spec” canoes. Rigging it is EASY (iakos just snap into the hull and ama similar to OC1) and the boat is light (148 pounds) versus the spec boats that weigh over 400 pounds and take forever to rig with their wooden iakos and rope.

- OC-6 would add another dimension to our paddling program and offer great cross-training for our dragonboat team.

NBP has agreed to purchase the boat if we can raise the funds for its initial purchase. This is a big deal because of insurance, storage, maintenance, etc.

- The cost of the canoe is $14,000 (which is about half of what a new one costs).

- In addition, we will need OC paddles which cost about $1,000.

-Two members have already stepped up to raise $3,000 for the deposit!

How can you help?

- If you are willing and able to make a tax-deductible donation to NBP in the next 30 days specifically to fund this boat purchase, please donate today.

There are a TON of logistics to be ironed out on how this program will work. But it all starts with getting the boat!

Thanks for your consideration as we look to expand our world-class paddling program!
