In the Dominican Republic, the tourism industry is booming and the economy is growing. But the divide between the rich and poor is growing daily, and individuals living in poverty often do not have access to medical care. This leads to an average life expectancy that is almost 5 years lower than that of the United States.
On January 25th, a team of volunteers from the Kansas area will fly to Monte Plata in the Dominican Republic. The mission of this trip is simple! We want to share God's love through medical treatment.
Each year, teams of about 40 medical professionals, including surgeons, dentists, nurses, ophthalmologists, and PAs, spend a week in the nation, serving as many people as we can. We anticipate touching the lives of about 1,000 patients. Of those seen, about 100 will need surgeries, 300 will have eye exams and possibly receive glasses, 250 will have dental procedures, and others will have office visits for other medical needs.
To make this possible, we are raising the money needed for medications like antibiotics, anesthesia, vitamins, and more. Many of our supplies are donated or purchased at cost, but about $3,000 remains. We need your help to offer needed medical care to the community of Monte Plata. You can make a huge difference in the lives of families and children who cannot afford care.
