Overview: 

Goals for Girls partners with organizations around the world, using soccer as a tool to tackle issues affecting young women. In South Africa, girls face many challenges, including the lingering effects of Apartheid, the AIDS epidemic, and socioeconomic obstacles that prevent many from reaching their true potential. 

For these girls, soccer is not simply a game; it is an important and innovative tool that provides a vital outlet to girls who are victims of poverty, social inequality, and increased health risk.

Our Next Program:  

In 2022, our Goals for Girls program teams will be comprised of around 20 American high school soccer players from all over the U.S.  

The first half of our South Africa program will be spent in Khayelitsha and Cape Town. With a 70% unemployment rate, poverty in this region is rampant, with young women disproportionately affected. Goals for Girls will help to host a financial education and HIV prevention program, partnering with local organizations to make the biggest impact.  

The second half of our program will be in Johannesburg for the Goals for Girls 2022 South Africa Leadership Summit. During the Summit, the American team will join participants from schools and partner organizations for a 4 day, sun-up to sun-down schedule, designed to empower girls through the game of soccer. Participants will leave with higher self-esteem, better communication skills, and an increased ability to make healthy choices. 

This trip has the potential to change the lives of all of the young women involved. While the American team will have the chance to help their South African peers embrace their full potential, the wisdom they gain in becoming global citizens will help them improve the status of girls across the world.
