Meet SPCA's Ten Dollar Pearl

It's Great to Be Alive! Bringing transport animals to Ithaca.

A fundraising campaign for SPCA of Tompkins County

Meet Ten Dollar Pearl.

This shy, beautiful, loving dog could not get adopted in her Alabama shelter.

Not even at the price of $10.

She was slated for euthanasia until we stepped in and scooped her up for the long trip to Ithaca and her forever home.

Since January 1, 2017 we have transported NINETY DOGS and EIGHTEEN CATS that had no room at the inn due to overcrowding and lack of resources.  They came from NINETEEN different shelters and rescues, predominantly from the deep south, but also from regional shelters and rescues.  Even in our own back yard, the SPCA of Tompkins County extends a helping hand.

In our animal transport van, we have met planeloads of dogs in New Jersey and Buffalo, and met the special tractor trailers designed to carry animals in Tioga County.  Puppies can share cages more easily than adult dogs, so we try to bring as many as possible on each trip simply to save more lives.

Imagine this--surrounded by staff and volunteers from other shelters and rescues, Jim Bouderau, our executive director,  and a devoted SPCA volunteer quickly mobilize to identify to the crates labeled for the SPCA of Tompkins County. Our charges have arrived and we are bringing them home to a good medical care and a lifetime of love.

From the minute they come in to our Rescue building until they go out the front door of the Dorothy and Roy Park Pet Adoption Center, they are cared for in an extraordinary way by our staff and volunteers.

YOU are an important part of this equation.  As SPCA supporters and adopters, you help complete this very important circle.

Thank you for your generous gifts and your loving support of our mission.  Dogs like Pearl can now say "It's great to be alive."

p.s. We are happy to report that just yesterday, Pearl found her forever home. Her name is now Maggie.  She has a dog sister, Molly, and they have already been spotted sleeping in the same dog bed. Don't you just love a story with a happy ending?
