Meals and More - January 2018

Our Meals on Wheels team provides personal contact & healthy meals to neighbors who find it hard to prepare meals on their own. Your donation make it possible!

A fundraising campaign for Fishes and Loaves Cooperative Ministries

Fishes and Loaves Cooperative Ministries started as a shopping service for people in the greater Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA (15207). Our first delivery was in June 2011. Since then we registered as a 501c3 nonprofit, and we added other projects. Our motto is to "Bring Healthy Food at Reasonable Prices" to our neighbors.

In August 2015 we brought the Hazelwood-Greenfield Meals on Wheels program into our operation. This program relies on donations and grants to provide home-delivered meals to about 35 households Monday through Friday. Most of our clients receive the meals free of charge, and about 7-10 donate up to $25 per week for the 10 meals they receive. Without exception we are serving people with various disabilities, limited income and most are advanced in years.

Because we serve all people who request meals, we are not eligible for government funding.

In addition to delivering meals to our neighbors, we offer a free lunch to those who come to the Pastoral Center of St. Stephen parish here in Hazelwood. In a typical month we serve free lunches to about 50 people (including children) for a total of up to 400 meals per month. Each meal contains protein (meat, fish, etc.), vegetable and a starch along with fresh produce when available and bottled water. Often we are able to provide additional treats donated from the local bakery and supermarket.

We also supply EMERGENCY FOOD on request - non-perishable items, produce, meat, ... again, we rely on donations to stock our pantry and freezer. We've given food to single people and to families with children - young and old alike.

Moving toward our goal of providing more than meals - with YOUR help!

January 16, 2018

In December we supplied emergency food to 3 families. Already in January we have assisted 4 families with emergency food.

Your donations make this possible.
