Before social distancing, before the fight for PPE and
testing, before COVID-19 knocked the world off its feet, those with lupus already
understood the fear of contagion, the isolation of chronic illness, and the
need for a more responsive health care system.
The coronavirus pandemic may have given the world a peek at what it’s like to live with lupus, but it’s also robbed our lupus family of our most cherished events – our lupus walks. These community-based events are eagerly anticipated each year. They are also an essential source of funding that allows LAUNY to provide programs for free whenever and wherever they are needed throughout Upstate New York.
No one knows what to expect from COVID-19. In that sense, it’s a lot like lupus. But we do know how to fight! Will you help?
Help raise funds and awareness in support of the Lupus community across the 33 counties served by the Lupus Alliance of Upstate New York. That’s right, all of us together because that’s what it will take.

Jen is a Lupus Warrior in Northeast New York who lost her health and energy to lupus, but there were other losses she never anticipated. She lost the career that she loved. She lost her financial security. She lost friends and the opportunities to go places and have fun as she once did. She lost her role as the family’s “go-to person”. She lost time in doctors’ offices waiting for a diagnosis that took nearly five years to come. All the while, her symptoms worsened, changed and then a fourth autoimmune condition was added to the diagnosis. In spite of all of this, Jen talks with Lupus Warriors all over the world, comparing notes, finding and giving comfort, and advocating for herself and her lupus family. Jen is fighting back. |
