Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center was chosen as the recipient of the 2018 Pedal For A Purpose fundraiser hosted by the Central Southern Illinois Synod (CSIS)! Pedal For A Purpose is an annual bike-riding fundraiser, which the CSIS has run over the past 5 years. Throughout the spring, congregations and communities across the synod participated to raise funds for LOMC.
Everyone is invited to help support the Central Southern Illinois Synod's 6th Pedal for a Purpose fundraiser to raise $25,000 for LOMC! Over the spring, over $10,000 was raised by the CSIS, but we need your help to push us to our goal. All funds raised will go towards new siding and remodeled bathrooms in the 6 bunkhouses/meeting facilities in Timbers and Meadows villages. Built in the late 70s, these cabins are over 40 years old and showing great signs of wear and tear. Our goal is to provide efficient, energy saving siding that will provide comfortable, weather proof housing for our campers, as well as clean, safe, and handicap accessible bathrooms. In recent years, we’ve replaced doors and windows. This next phase of new siding and bathrooms, and eventually roofing, will make the refurbishment of all our bunkhouses complete to sustain many more years of guests.
Pedal for a Purpose uses the concept of pledging a certain amount of money to individuals participating in a bicycle-themed event. This could be a pledge per mile, or a donation to an individual or church participating in Pedal for a Purpose. There are many creative ways that congregations can get involved! For example, hold a spinning event at a local YMCA or fitness center, a stationary Bike-A-Thon, or pre-school "trike-a-thon," or even a bake sale or yard sale to name a few. Or simply consider taking a special offering or utilizing some of your congregation’s outreach funds for this effort.
The opportunity to support this effort will run through the remainder of August and September, culminating with a big celebration. Join us on Saturday, September 29, at LOMC to celebrate and give thanks to God and all efforts towards this appeal. A full, fun day is planned kicking off with a beautiful bike ride through Ogle County!
Celebration Schedule:
9:00 AM – 25-mile bike ride through beautiful Ogle County.
12:00 PM – Lunch at LOMC
1:00 PM – Celebrate Pedal for a Purpose success
1:30 PM – Worship with pastors Karyn Kost and Adam Dichsen
2:45 PM – Tour of bunkhouses to see where the money will be used
