LOMC Giving Day

A fundraising campaign for Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center

It's ALL FOR THE KIDS! Sponsor a camp scholarship to gift a child a one week opportunity for life transforming experiences in God's beautiful outdoors.

Camp makes a difference in the life of a child. It can be a safety zone for campers, both physically and spiritually, where they are free to be themselves, explore new ideas, and not feel judged. Children are infiltrated into a team environment, guided to work through challenges, and empowered to live into their identities as children of God.

At Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center, we welcomed over 1,000 youth for day and overnight camps in the summer of 2017, and for 108 of those children, their summer camp was made possible by a camp scholarship. We are blessed with the responsibility to live out our mission for these kids, which is to be the Church in outdoor settings, nurturing Christian faith, and providing experiences connecting the Word of God with the World of God.

Our 2018 LOMC Giving Day goal is to raise $10,000 for camp scholarships, completing our $24,000 annual campership goal, of which $10,000 has already been funded. The average cost of one week of camp is $450, and a camp scholarship is often split three ways between the congregation, the family and LOMC. However, the amount of financial assistance is based on each individual family and congregational needs. Therefore, we have an approximate goal of providing one-week camp scholarships to over 150 campers with our $10,000 appeal (and a fully funded $24,000 end goal) of our LOMC Giving Day campaign.

Recipients of a camp scholarship are designated to youth who would otherwise be unable to afford one week of summer camp. Research studies have shown that children who experience one week of outdoor ministry camp have long lasting results, such as growing in independence, self-confidence, helpfulness around the house, growth in knowledge about God and engagement in faith practices long after they’ve returned home from camp.

Our mission is accomplished by many contributing forces: our Heavenly Father who makes all things possible, a year round staff of 10 hardworking Christians, 20 board members representing the 3 ELCA synods of Illinois, 30+ summer staff, and our amazing donors who financially help fund our operations, such as our camp scholarships. It is the intent of the LOMC Board of Directors to welcome every child wanting to participate in summer camp, confirmation camp, and environmental education.

Will you invest in our youth today to help ensure they experience the love of Christ in His beautiful creation? Please help us reach our goal of making a difference in the life of a child by making your gift today!
