Keep Literacy Alive

Imagine not being able to read… How would you use the internet… fill out a job application … communicate with your child’s teacher ... understand written instructions from your doctor?

Millions of Americans cannot read well enough to get two facts from a newspaper article. Even in this day and age, one  adult Texan in five is functionally illiterate.   Adults need strong literacy skills to become good employees, to avoid crime, and to keep their families healthy.  Children who have literate parents arrive at school with larger vocabularies and pre-reading skills.  Fortunately,  The Corpus Christi Literacy Council helps adults overcome that situation.  Our staff & volunteers have been teaching adults and helping other literacy efforts for 30 years.
