Support student curiosity and participatory democracy!
I'm a Scientist USA is a free program for young people aged 7-19 years old featuring an exciting online event where they can meet and interact with science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) role models over fast-paced live chats, ask questions and choose their favorite scientist. They ask the scientists anything they want, and then through our unique participatory democracy model they vote for one of them to receive $500 to communicate their work with the public.
By enabling opportunities for young people to engage with STEM professionals and experts we overcome barriers to education such as geography, economics, gender and social group.
We have over 120 schools across 33 states who want to take part in our events, but we need funding to enable this to happen. We serve a large range of disadvantaged schools and students, including socioeconomically deprived ethnically diverse urban communities, students with medical and physical disabilities and remote and isolated schools and home-schooled students.
We have been able to connect 13 schools with scientists so far this year and we'd like to see if we can get students from another 13 schools interacting with scientists by November.
