HVVA 2019

One Team, One Fight!

A fundraising campaign for Hudson Valley Veterans Alliance

The Vision

From its inception, The Hudson Valley Veterans Alliance has been about veterans empowering each other.  This unique 501(c)(3) non-profit organization was formed when a few veterans of different branches of the service chose to come together, in an alliance, to lift up fellow veterans.  To this vision, was added the invitation for persons who had not served in the US Armed Forces, but want a hand in assisting veterans. Civilians and veterans come together regularly to discuss resources, community events and opportunities that enrich Hudson Valley area veterans.

The Team

Every member of Hudson Valley Veterans Alliance brings their own unique skills and experience to the table in a complementary manner.  Within Hudson Valley Veterans Alliance veterans and civilians from many area agencies and organizations are represented:  The American Legion, The Women Marines Association, Dutchess Community College, Hudson River Housing, Dutchess County Department of Veterans Services, Mental Health America of Dutchess County/Dutchess County Vet2Vet, Heroic Foods and even a local radio station, WRWD.

The Mission

Hudson Valley Veterans Alliance passionately focuses on removing employment and transportation barriers, providing resources for food or furniture, ending veteran homelessness, providing mental health resources, and at times just helping veterans maneuver administrative processes needed to obtain much needed benefits. This unique nonprofit assists the most at-risk veteran population, who at times are unable to be reached by other organizations.

There is a sense of duty here; there is a sense of altruism here…traits that are unique to most veteran organizations.

Why we are here:

¨ According current figures published by the Department of Veteran Affairs overall homelessness has dropped whereas veteran homelessness is on this rise.

¨ Only 62% of veterans from Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn utilize VA Health Care.

¨ 4% - 17% of veterans have Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and only 50% of them seek treatment for it.

¨ There are over 806,000 veterans in the state of New York, with around 9% being women veterans.

¨ Most veterans in New York are aged 65 and over, giving Hudson Valley Veterans Alliance the special honor of providing assistance to the more aged veteran population, which often include Vietnam War and Korean War veterans.

What we will continue to do:

¨ Offer resources for temporary housing when necessary, with a focus on permanent housing, for homeless or at-risk veterans.

¨ Assist in administering programs that ensure their success and livelihood.

¨ Foster a safe community and environment for vulnerable veterans.

¨ Provide opportunities for veterans to come together and feel a sense of pride in their service.

¨ Give financial assistance for the most needy veterans.

¨ Continue to grow our resources and organization to continue to offer these services, for many years to come.

 One Team, One Fight

Here at Hudson Valley Veterans Alliance, we are driven by a single goal; to help provide assistance, information, and build support networks for veterans, by veterans, throughout the Hudson Valley. "One Team, One Fight" is our motto because in the Alliance, we serve all service members who are facing hardship.  Whether you were a machinist mate on the bottom of the USS Esseks, sailing around the pacific, or a radio operator in a European command; if you raised your right hand to serve this nation, we at the Alliance honor that code, and We are more than honored to assist you during these challenging times.
