Help Us Buy a Boat - A Year-End Campaign

We can ensure lake access and learning opportunities for our entire community through a dedicated vessel. Help the Floating Classroom buy a boat for everyone!

A fundraising campaign for Discover Cayuga Lake

We're opening a new chapter in the Floating Classroom's story, and we need your help.

In the fall of 2017, we had the unprecedented chance to acquire the M/V Teal, a beautiful 63-foot passenger vessel. A generous individual donor helped us seize this opportunity on the terms that we raise enough funding to complete the transaction prior to our cruise season's start on May 1.

This new boat can secure the future of the Floating Classroom, allowing us to:

  • continue programming for the 2500 students we presently serve each year,
  • offer exciting new opportunities for larger groups,
  • run public Eco-Tours entirely staffed by our own Floating Classroom educators and interns - the proceeds of which will support our non-profit mission of education and lake access for Finger Lakes youth!

From now until the end of the year, an anonymous sponsor has offered to match every private donation, dollar for dollar!

That's right - you donate $100 and we'll receive $200. Donate $1000 and we'll receive $2000! Please help us spread the message about the importance of New York Gives Day to our organization this year.

The Floating Classroom is guided by the following values:

Community:

We see environmental literacy as a foundation for strong communities, environmental justice, and sustainable resources.

Direct Experience:

We create opportunities for active learning, onboard and in local streams. Students participate in ongoing studies and gain powerful understanding of natural systems.

Equal Access:

We provide financial assistance whenever needed, and opportunities regardless of background or income.

The Floating Classroom is a Project Partner of the Center for Transformative Action, a 501(c)3 non-profit.
