Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley is honored to have been chosen as this year's partner for the annual Greater Elgin Sing-Along Messiah!
Since 1990, Habitat NFV has served the Elgin community by providing affordable housing opportunities to low-income families. We currrently have 3 homes in Elgin that are in various stages of construction. In addition, our Critical Home Repair & Aging In Place programs provide repairs and upgrades to homes to ensure the health and safety of seniors and veterans in our community.
Why Affordable Housing Matters
Affordable homeownership helps create the conditions that free families from stress and fear, helping build stability and confidence. Studies show that strong and stable households are foundational to child development and growth. When a home fosters instead of hinders, the health and safety of families can flourish.
How Habitat Homeowners Program Works:
- Habitat NFV manages the construction process from land acquisition to closing. Habitat construction staff lead the construction of the home, where the home is built entirely profit-free with the help of individual volunteers, corporate sponsors and local churches onsite year-round.
- Habitat Homebuyers undergo an application process synonamous with a traditional mortgage-lending process. Habitat applicants must be considered low-moderate income and demonstrate a housing need.
- When the home is complete, Habitat NFV’s role transitions from builder to lender. As a Certified Mortgage Lender, Habitat NFV provides the Habitat family a 0%, 30-year Mortgage. Habitat homes are sold at fair market value and Habitat families participate in the construction of their own home.
You can play a role in building strength, stability, self-reliance and shelter.
