Paws for the Holidays & GIVE Thanks #GivingTuesday

Back in 2011 a couple of us started rescuing homeless dogs together, and formed an official rescue group of our own in 2012. We worked toward getting our 501(c)3 registered nonprofit status, which we received in December 2013. We have a Board of Directors of hard-working volunteers, plus many fosters and volunteers locally and in New England. We have found great homes for more than 3,000 homeless dogs now. 

Animal rescue is never going to be easy. In fact it's hard work. It's exhausting–physically, mentally and emotionally, but the end result is very rewarding. It's dirty work, but it's tempered with puppy kisses, snuggling with puppies who were once terrified of people, grateful pets, and appreciative owners. It's long hours. Very long hours. The phone battery is at 1%, so you talk to an adopter or references tethered to the phone charger plugged into the wall. The gas tank is on Empty, but you need to run to the store for a bag of dog food for a foster. You need to run errands, but the foster dog needs to go to the vet first. You really need to crawl into bed, but you need to finish typing up that adoption contract. You want to go out with friends for a beautiful Saturday afternoon, but instead you volunteer at an adoption event. Once you get involved, it's hard to walk away and not promise to do all we can. We can't save them all, but we will save the ones that we can and hope that someone else can step up for the others.

Animal rescue is a million different things, but it's really about only ONE thing: saving animals and finding the perfect home for that ONE pet, one at a time.

We know we make a difference in our community, and in the homes of our adopters who found "the one" that fits their family just right. The wagging tail that makes them smile. Rescue is expensive and we've all put in lots of our own money over the years, and certainly a lot of our time. It's blood, it's sweat, it's tears. But it's ours. It's our legacy to leave many, many dogs and cats in the gentle hands of families who love them.

Fundraising Goal:
$3,000 for Spay & Neuter Financial Assistance Program

1) ArkanPaws is now offering a Spay & Neuter Financial Assistance Program, along with a Rabies Shot for dog/cat owners in need of financial assistance for dogs and cats they already own. We use spay/neuter vouchers available to us for $25-50 OFF, we supplement $20 toward the surgery, and ask the owners to pay the remaining $30 toward the surgery and rabies shot. We pick up and transport the animals to our surgery vet where they stay the night after their surgery, and we drop them off at their homes the next day.

2) OUR 2019 GOAL is to get 120 dogs and 60 cats sterilized who would have not been spayed or neutered without our help. Getting that many intact animals sterilized is a huge step toward addressing the problem of dog and cat overpopulation in Arkansas. 

$6,000 for Upgrading Our Pens

Purchase a supplies to upgrade the rest of our pens so they all have better protection from the weather, and fence in another dog yard for them to run and play in while their pens are being cleaned or just for a break from being in the pen. 

Your Donation

We generally have 40-60 dogs and puppies in our program while we are busy getting them vetted and healthy in preparation for their "fur-ever" homes. There are always unexpected expenses in animal rescue -- whether it's treating heartworms in a new dog, getting shot after being dumped, repairing a broken leg after being hit by a car, treating mange or parvo, or any number of emergencies that come up. All donations and adoption fees go directly toward caring for our foster dogs. ArkanPaws is staffed only by volunteers.

About Us

ArkanPaws Animal Rescue is a large group of volunteers who are passionate about helping homeless pets through rescuing, fostering, vetting, rehabilitating, and finding them loving “fur-ever” homes. We have adopted out about 3,000 dogs since 2011. ArkanPaws also strives to educate the community about pet overpopulation in Arkansas and reinforce the importance of spaying and neutering pets. We are based in Conway, Arkansas, but most of our dogs go to adopters in the New England area to help ease the burden of finding homes for so many dogs locally.
