Resilience
is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the healing and
empowerment of sexual assault survivors through non-judgmental crisis
intervention counseling, individual and group trauma therapy, and medical and
legal advocacy in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. Resilience provides
public education and institutional advocacy in order to improve the treatment
of sexual assault survivors and to effect positive change in policies and
public attitudes toward sexual assault.
We place a
high priority on equity and inclusion. Resilience envisions a world where prevention
education and awareness of sexual violence expose rape myths, remove stigmas,
eliminate rape and support all people as equal members of society. Participants
in prevention education workshops learn how to identify elements of rape
culture, identify and reduce risk factors, and become agents of change within
their own communities. Resilience programs and services are available
to any survivor or loved one within Chicago and the immediately surrounding
area, at no cost to them. Sexual violence can affect anyone, regardless of
socioeconomic status or other factors. Because we know that individuals who
reside in under-resourced communities and/or who are marginalized in other ways
often face significant hurdles in securing services, Resilience makes sure to
provide service in locations and in ways that are convenient and easy to
access.
