Imagine the fear of experiencing excruciating pain, losing your eye sight, and yet lacking sufficient (or any) insurance, resources or access to medical care?

This is precisely the position that “Ms. Davis”, a Will-Grundy Medical Clinic patient found herself in earlier this year.  Ms. Davis was diagnosed with Cataracts and Optic Neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve resulting in eye pain worsened by eye movement, loss or reduction of vision).  The condition was dire.  

Through the Clinic and its resources, made possible due to the generous gifts of time and expertise and contributions from volunteers and donors like you, Ms. Davis was connected to the appropriate treatment, surgery and post-operative care.  As a result, Ms. Davis can now better care for her family.

During a recent follow-up visit to the Clinic, Ms. Davis shared with the staff that “The Clinic has been a blessing for me from the day I walked in the door.”  And, she continued, “I can see.  I am blessed and I can see!”

Many of us take our health and healthcare for granted.  Patients like Ms. Davis, however, find themselves in the position that they must depend upon the Will Grundy Medical Clinic and the support of you and others to assure they have access to quality healthcare when they need it.

Despite the new resources available through the Affordable Care Act, the number of uninsured is estimated at nearly 80,000 in Will County and nearly 7,000 in Grundy County.  Our communities continue to need the Clinic and the quality health care that we and our volunteer partners provide.  The Clinic’s lifesaving and life improving care, treatment and medications provided free of charge help to ensure patients do not seek non-emergent care through our emergency rooms and assure they are healthy enough to go to work, and benefit the life of the communities we serve.

Since our doors opened in 1988, we have provided more than 150,000 patients.

In 2015-2016 alone, we have provided 2,007 Medical and Dental Patient Visits, 2,910 Nurse Visits, 894 Prescription Visits, 581 Healthy Life Style Visits, and 1,236 Referral Visits. We have served over 1,010 Patients with the help of volunteers who contributed a total of 20,935 Voluntary Service Hours. 

We are a free charitable clinic open Monday through Friday. We provide comprehensive health care and dental care through onsite volunteer general practitioners, dentists, and specialty physicians. We are also able to secure additional free specialty care by connecting patients to volunteer referral providers in the community. Services provided include primary care, specialty care, laboratory services, surgeries, hospitalizations, medications, health education, nutrition counseling, stress reduction, fitness classes, diagnostic tests, patient teaching, and nurse visits.
