The Alternative
Schools Network (ASN) is a not-for-profit organization in Chicago providing
wrap-around services to inner-city, jobless, and out-of-school youth. In
Chicago, nearly 40,000 youth between the ages of 15 and 20 and approximately
97,000 youth ages 16 to 24 are high school dropouts. These teens and young
adults often find their personal circumstances too insurmountable to overcome
on their own in order to stay in school.
Since 1973, ASN
has been a consistent and effective advocate for at-risk youth through a
network of local charter schools to re-enroll them in school and transition
them into the workforce. ASN has built a legacy around operating successful
education, employment and support service programs that reach the underserved
and marginalized youth in Chicago.
There has been
an abrupt increase in Chicago’s gun violence and there is clear evidence that
shootings have a high correlation with joblessness. Research findings show that
both joblessness and violence are highest in the Chicago’s lowest-income
neighborhoods – which is why ASN is continuing to fight for youth employment
opportunities.
With your support, ASN will be able to expand current programming to have a larger impact on the youth we serve. The average American spends $5 on coffee a day! We are asking you to give up your coffee for a week to support a youth earning their high school diploma, getting their first job, or being a first generation college student! Think of the lasting impact your gift would have for future generations!
