Help us to give local residents the “Renter’s” Edge
Too often, renters are overlooked when it comes to providing valuable education on how to navigate the rental process from start to finish. Recognizing this as an important need, we created a unique program known as our “Renter’s Edge” program.
The free program consists of a series of two, highly interactive workshops custom-tailored to meet the needs of Section 8 rental
assistance recipients, young adults aging out of foster care, immigrants and
refugees, as well as the general public.
Useful tips for renters including
building your "Renter's Resume," avoiding rental scams, creating a
realistic spending plan, apartment 'red flags', life as a tenant, and fair
housing rights.
In 2015, we were able to provide 8 Renter's Edge workshops throughout the WNY community. We proudly graduated 163 residents! This year, we are hoping to increase that
number to 200!
Geraldine, a recent Renter's Edge graduate had this to say about the program:
"My family and I were living in unsafe housing. My
daughter has sickle disease and had an elevated lead level. During the Renter's
Edge I learned about tenant rights, how to call a landlord and how to find a
safer unit. It gave me the edge we needed to find housing-the rest has been
smooth sailing; my daughter is healthier and soon after I found a job"
