Give For Good Louisville

On September 14th, 2017 The Miracle Dancer Scholarship Foundation is joining a giving movement: Give For Good Louisville! We need YOUR help!!!

In 1990, several parents of special need students called the Diane Moore Dance Academy in Louisville, KY to inquire about a dance class. They had been uncussessful in finding a studio willing to accept the challenge of working with their children. With open arms and lots of love, the Miracle Dancers were soon born at the Diane Moore Dance Academy.

Starting with three students, the Miracle Dancers have now grown to over 56 special needs dancers and 14 assistants and partners. The dancers range from ages four through adult and include students with all types of special needs. Currently the group is open to any student who cannot excel in a traditional dance class. Students are encouraged to discover and use their own strengths to build their self-esteem through performing arts. They are the most versatile group you could ever meet. Our dancers perform in wheelchairs, with walkers, crutches, braces etc. Some are legally blind, deaf and have conditions such as Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy and one eve uses her beautiful smile and sign language to communicate with us because she cannot speak. Many Junior Miracle Dancers have a volunteer assistant to work with them and the Senior Miracle Dancers perform with members of our Senior Performing Arts Troupe. The Miracle Dancers were featured in the May 2009 issue of Dance Teacher magazine. Their vivacious energy and uplifting spirits have inspired us all. The Miracle Dancers are an annual highlight on the WHAS Crusade for Children telethon. As you see them perform, they will move your spirit and enlighten your heart.

A Legacy of Miracles

“Being a part of the Miracle Dancers means my son has opportunities he never would have anywhere else. Through dance he has gained endurance, confidence and a love for the arts. I am more than grateful to Diane Moore Dance Academy for realizing the potential in our children.” Rebekah Petrando Parent of Will, Age 9 Jr. Miracle Dancer since 2010

“Miracle Dancers allows me to show people that I can do something normal like everyone else.” Heather Stengel, Age 23 Sr. Miracle Dancer since 1996

“I can honestly say that the Miracle Dancers have greatly altered the way I look at the world. They’re a great group of kids. No matter what they’re going through, they always come in with a smile on their face and are so dedicated to dance and that alone is a great feat for any person. They have surely touched my heart and changed the way I live my life.” Sarah Stout, Age 16 Miracle Dancer Helper since 2008
