Getting Over Window-Panes at the Crawford House

The windows on the basement level of the Captain David Crawford House are in critical condition. Let's make the necessary repairs!

The Captain David Crawford House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in 1830 for War of 1812 veteran David Crawford and his family. This Newburgh landmark is architecturally unique in the Hudson Valley, and remains remarkably intact, having been little changed over the years. There is a wealth of original interior and exterior architectural detail. Not only does the Crawford House have architectural value, but it is also a repository containing a variety of artifacts, antiques and papers pertaining to a local history. And we must continue to protect the Crawford House.

The windows on the basement level have nearly fallen out of place. Water from heavy rains has continued to cause damage to the the structure holding the windows in place. Not only does the danger pose a threat to the integrity of structure by water damage, but water entering the house encourages the spread of rot and endangers collection objects. We have already responded by removing the damaged windows while making the necessary improvements to slow down the deterioration. The windows must be reconstructed, fitted, and secured into place.
