Generosity Unleashed

Rise to the challenge or you'll be in the dog house—literally!

A fundraising campaign for Humane Society of Sarasota County Inc

About Generosity Unleashed

Combining the excitement of a giving day, the competitive element of a team fundraiser, and the entertainment of a lock-up event, the Humane Society of Sarasota County presents the first-ever Generosity Unleashed. Harnessing the power of peer-to-peer fundraising, this mostly virtual fundraising event is an amazing opportunity to raise funds for HSSC while also having fun.

This is event is powered by Champions: the amazing people who have agreed to raise $5,000 each for HSSC between Thursday, June 17, and 10am on Friday, July 16. If they don't meet the challenge, they'll be "locked up" in either a dog or cat room* at HSSC for about an hour, during which time they'll be smiling and dialing their contacts to get them to donate and bail them out.

Champions can be individuals or teams. Champions who hit their $5,000 goal before July 16 will not be locked up. There will be prizes for the Champions who raise the most.

All proceeds raised will be put toward HSSC’s shelter renovation campaign.

*Don’t worry: Champions will have a state-of-the-art kennel with air conditioning, water, and their very own bed, plus treats and toys if they're good! They may even get a puppy or kitten to cuddle.

If you're up to the challenge, click the START FUNDRAISING button above to become a Champion. If you have any questions, please contact Autumn Steiner at 941.955.4131 x121 or

If you're not interested in being a Champion, you can still support the campaign by making a donation. Be sure to tune in to HSSC's social media channels on July 16 to watch the Champions get "locked up."

Building a More Humane Future

At some point, an animal left its mark on your life. Maybe it was your childhood pet. Maybe it was an animal that helped you through a rough patch. Maybe it’s your current fur baby. Think about how much that animal meant to you and how it changed your story. Now multiply your story by 1,800. That’s the number of cats and dogs saved by the Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) every year.

Until now…

HSSC is in the final stages of construction on the largest renovation and expansion project in our nearly 70-year history. We are still on the exact same location on 15th Street, but we knocked down our cramped, outdated facility. In its place, we are building a 38,000ft2 shelter that will truly transform the landscape of animal care in our area. We will be able to care for more than 2,700 animals each year—an annual increase of 900 animals. Our new shelter is a dream on the brink of coming true, but we need your help. You can make this dream a reality and save 2,700 animals each year for decades to come.

This is an incredible opportunity to show your love for animals and to demonstrate your support for the area’s premier no-kill shelter. Our new facility will be an incredible place, but it’s what will happen inside the building that matters.

  • Every day, people will walk through our light-filled atrium, eager to meet their new family members.
  • Shelter cats will enjoy the view from their multi-story indoor/ outdoor “catios,” living in the lap of luxury.
  • Dogs who had only ever known pain and fear will experience the feeling of a full belly, a soft bed, and a secure space.
  • Children will interact with animals in our summer camps, learning compassion and empathy in the process.
  • Every animal will visit our in-house clinic, whether they need only routine care or a lifesaving procedure.
  • Animal welfare professionals will congregate in our multipurpose space for symposiums and workshops, pooling their knowledge to help save more animals in our state.

Your gift today will build the future of the Humane Society of Sarasota County and change thousands of lives in the process.

About the Organization

Humane Society of Sarasota County Inc

Incorporated in 1952 as Sarasota’s first nonprofit animal welfare organization, the Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) has grown to be the area’s premier no-kill shelter. A home is found for every adoptable pet in our care.

We take tremendous pride in being the area’s premier no-kill shelter, and with that comes the responsibility to lead by example. Our mission will always be focused on saving the lives of cats and dogs and enriching human lives along the way. We provide compassionate care to our shelter pets, find them permanent homes, and promote responsible pet ownership in our community. We also offer humane education, pet therapy, volunteer opportunities, an affordable, full-service public Animal Clinic, a pet food pantry, and more.

HSSC is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. We rely solely on contributions from individuals, organizations, and corporations. HSSC receives no federal funding, nor are we funded by any national humane organization.
