The Fox Valley Special Recreation Foundation (FVSRF) is a registered 501c3 charity, which supports the recreation, leisure and social opportunities provided for people with disabilities by the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association since 2010.

The Foundation’s role is to establish and foster support from individuals, businesses and organizations in an effort to further the goals and ideals of the Fox Valley Special Recreation Association (FVSRA).

Fox Valley Special Recreation Association

The FVSRA is comprised of seven Member Agencies (the Park Districts of Batavia, Fox Valley, Geneva, Oswegoland, St. Charles and Sugar Grove; and the South Elgin Parks and Recreation Department), that spans nearly 450,000 households.

FVSRA has been providing year-round programming and summer day camps, inclusion support within each respective agency and Special Olympic athletics for individuals with disabilities for over 40 years.

Formed in 1976, our goal is to provide a diverse range of recreational activities to enable residents with disabilities to experience active, healthy, and playful lifestyles. Programs are designed to include opportunities that will enhance skill development and socialization, encourage self-awareness and community exploration, promote independence through personal choice of least restrictive environments, and provide a sense of enjoyment, satisfaction and fulfillment.

Our mission is the development of individuals through recreation offering recreational, cultural and social programs for people with disabilities. We serve preschoolers to senior citizens in the Fox Valley Area with various disabilities such as Down syndrome, Autistic spectrum disorders, Cerebral palsy, and other mental, physical or behavioral disabilities. Programs include Special Olympics, inclusion support, art and cultural programs, community outings, summer camps, and athletic leagues.

This vulnerable population tends to lead a more sedentary lifestyle than their peers without disabilities having fewer opportunities for socialization, skill development and community integration. By participating in various FVSRA programs, participants have opportunities to be healthier, happier and better connected to the communities where they live. It also builds stronger communities where people with and without disabilities learn to appreciate each other’s differences and the value each member contributes to their community.
