Thank you for your RSVP! So many people signed up that we increased the catering order to 120 to make sure there was enough food. Yum!

We're so glad you'll be Joining us to celebrate the resilience of people’s history at the Alternatives Library and Prisoner Express fundraising dinner!

With food, live music, and performance, there’s no better time to browse our diverse collection of materials. The Alternatives Library circulates thousands of inspiring and igniting books proving that many worlds are possible.

This event is free and open to the public – and a suggested donation of $10-15 will help us provide food and entertainment at the event, and all contributions give the opportunity to join our new sustaining member program.

The Alternatives Library circulates its unique collection through 33 libraries in the Finger Lakes Library System – but that’s not all... our prisoner correspondence program is growing, and in the last six months over 6,000 have enrolled in our programs.

  • Catering by Enat Ethiopian Cuisine
  • Live Old Time String Band Music by the Flywheels – Cap Cook (banjo), Liz Pickard (guitar)
  • Free and open to the public, suggested donation with a meal and all contributions make you supporting patron of the library and its programs

About the Durland Alternatives Library and Prisoner Express

Since its founding in 1974, the library continues its mission of supporting social change and transformative action. Prisoner Express, one of our core programs, provides correspondence and reading materials for thousands of people incarcerated in the US prison system.


The Durland Alternatives Library is wheelchair accessible and handicap parking is available at the front of the building. Food provided at this event will include sugar-free, gluten free, and vegan options. The Alternatives Library is a fragrance-free space, please refrain from wearing perfume or cologne. Thanks!
