We had so much fun last year at Critter Carnival that we’re doing it again!  WRL will have our online fundraiser from September 16th through October 5th, then culminate in an in-person party at the Historic Blenheim House (3610 Blenheim Blvd., Fairfax, VA 22030) on October 6th, 2024, from 1:00-3:30 PM celebrating WRL’s 40th BIRTHDAY! We will have wine, cake, ice cream, raffles, raptors and more! Please join us for CRITTER CARNIVAL! Our fundraising goal is $15,000.

 

It’s hard to believe that WRL has been in existence for 40 years!  Going from less than a dozen rehabilitators, we now have over thirty rehabilitators and apprentices taking wildlife from all over Northern Virginia.  We've gone from rehabilitators answering their own calls while trying to feed animals, to our helpline now responding to over 4000 calls a year, providing advice, referrals and resources to callers from around the state and beyond. We've gone from rehabilitators picking up wildlife from the public, to transporters who drive thousands of miles each year, bringing wildlife from veterinarians and shelters to rehabilitators.

 

When WRL began, rehabilitators paid for their own supplies and medical expenses. Now, WRL budgets over $30,000 for food, formula, cages, treatment medications, prophylactic medications given to mammals prior to release such as rabies and distemper, as well as partial reimbursement for vet visits.  WRL also helps pay for prophylactic rabies shots and titers for those rehabilitators, apprentices and care providers who work with skunks, raccoons, foxes, bats and groundhogs.
