A Clubhouse is a community center for adults living with mental illness. Members collaborate with trained staff to perform all the work necessary to maintain the organization and facility. Offering a wide range of activities – such as planning and preparing healthy meals, creating newsletters, and more – Clubhouse participants stay busy and engaged with tasks that help them achieve their goals and personal wellness.
The unique skills of each member are utilized to further the wellness and recovery of everyone at the Clubhouse. The work-ordered day provides a routine schedule, while after-hours social activities provide opportunity for fun, fellowship, and ongoing education. Members also participate in consensus-based decision making regarding the operations of the Clubhouse—they are at their Clubhouse, and are not considered “patients” or “cases.”
