Centennial Celebration 1917 - 2017

Rooted in our past, growing in our future!

In 2017 Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland will celebrate 100 years of providing Rockland County residents with quality education and programming. The strength of the extension system is its constant ability to bring research-based information to the local residents which teaches them necessary skills for a fuller and richer living experience.

CCE of Rockland is a national leader in creating positive change on behalf of families, individuals, community groups, businesses and municipalities through rigorously-tested extension programs. We create measurable change priority areas by aligning local needs with the resources and priorities of the land grant system and its state and federal partners.

It's a new age and new financial structure for Cooperative Extension. Our Program Educators, along with our staff and Board of Directors are continually looking for grant and alternate funding opportunities which have become a necessity to maintain a high level of involvement within our Rockland communities. Last year alone we touched the lives of more than 20,000 residents through programs such as these:

Volunteer Support – Our Master Gardener Volunteers donated 4,600 hours throughout the county teaching classes, working in community gardens and helping Rockland Co. residents with their growing needs.

Institute for Non-Profits - The Institute for Non-Profits is a unifying, collaborative force developing effective non-profit leaders who improve the quality of life in their communities.

Speaker's Bureau Programs -Speakers' Bureau has lively and informative presentations that are specifically designed to meet the needs of our county. Choose from an Exciting Selection of Speakers' Bureau Topics!

Eat Smart New York – 4,600 families continue to choose diets consisting of more fruits and vegetables as a result of the education this program provides for the community.

Environmental Education – Cornell research based environmental education is presented through the Hudson River Fish Advisory, the Rockland County Stormwater Consortium of Towns and Villages, the Fertilizer Law Certification Courses, and the front-line work of the Rockland County Conservation Service Corps.

4-H/Youth Development – Building on the nationally proven youth development model, local 4H clubs and programming build respect, perseverance, and confidence. Further, our Veterinary Science Career Exploration Program prepares participants for academic and workplace success.

Horticulture Diagnostic Lab – Over 4,000 people use the lab service each year to identify insect and disease issues with ornamental and vegetable gardens.  After identification, a treatment or management solution is recommended.

School Garden Network– Working with 25 local schools, this educational program involved 4,000 children in school-based gardens to increase their physical activity and provide healthy choices in the foods they eat.

To build on the foundation for our next century, we begin the drive to raise $100,000 for the 100th Anniversary. Together, we will ensure families and individuals work toward another century of community and economic vitality with programs in agriculture, environmental resources, nutrition, 4-H/youth development and healthy families.  We encourage you to "friend" us on Facebook or go to our website and see all of the great things the CCE staff is doing.
