CASA - I am for the Child

A fundraising campaign for YWCA Clark County

When Sarah entered foster care, her parents were struggling with substance abuse and domestic violence.  The court appointed CASA to be Sarah’s advocate while she was in care and report back to the court with recommendations for Sarah that were specifically in her best interest.

The trauma for Sarah was not only the abuse and neglect by her parents.  She experienced depression, struggled with an eating disorder, and self-harm behaviors.  Sarah was also bullied and harassed at school. Sarah was placed in several foster homes during her time in care and assigned several different social workers.

Sarah found that her greatest support, and the most consistent adult in her life, was her CASA.  Sarah’s CASA advocated for a foster home that provided respite care to Sarah because she felt safe and supported in their home.  The CASA also advocated with school staff to create a safety plan and support while she was at school and ensured she received the mental and physical health care she needed.

Sarah graduated from high school on time and received several scholarships to college.  Her foster family adopted her when she aged out of foster care.

CASA needs your support to continue to advocate for children like Sarah.  The Clark County CASA Program advocated for over 800 children in 2018 with the support of 130 volunteer advocates.  Will you donate to CASA today so we have more success stories like Sarah’s?
