You've heard the tropes about dogs chasing cars, or dogs joining their owners for a "ride" to stick their heads out the window and feel the wind in their ears. The fact is, cars and dogs often get along...until they don't. An off-leash or displaced dog can easily come across a roadway and get hit by a vehicle, which can lead to very costly injuries or death. Recently, two canines arrived at SNIPSA who both appeared to have made their way in front of moving cars. Take a moment to read about Goodyear and Miracle, a couple of persevering pups who could use a little help.
TALK ABOUT ROAD RASH...
Bumped by a car? No biggie for Goodyear! This sweet boy came to us from Animal Care Services after being rescued off the streets. It was clear that he had recently been hit by a car suffering a de-gloving injury where the tissue is pulled back exposing important muscle and even bone. He arrived with a thick bandage on his back right leg, which we removed to discover a deep wound and an exposed tibia. Goodyear was also sporting a badly torn nail and a significant amount of road rash. In the face of his injuries, this pup has remained in high spirits with a wagging tail and a huge smile. He is an energetic boy who doesn't shy away from playing with the other canines in the office - even with a big ol' cone on his head!
After his debut on social media, he has already found an adopter. At this point, we just need support from our community to continue his healing journey. Will you pitch in to help cover the costs of Goodyear's medical fees?
DUMPED AND BROKEN...
Walking into the office one early morning, we discovered this sweet soul unable to sit or stand. She had been abandoned on a dog bed - no note, no name, just her injured self and her bed. Poor thing would cry out in pain when she attempted to move. Her radiographs revealed she had SIGNIFICANT injuries: two fractured hips, one dislocated hip and a broken elbow. We managed her pain until we could get her into surgery at a specialty hospital. And multiple surgeries she has had!
Sporting a ton of hardware, she now has two metal plates, multiple screws and a pin in her elbow. She has a long road ahead, but we have faith in the healing process. And she is now our million-dollar dog!!! We are calling all animal lovers to donate $10, $25, $100 or more. Her medical bills will surely exceed well over 10k. Please know how much we appreciate each of you who helps us do our work for the homeless animals of San Antonio. Make a donation today and contribute toward a better future for Miracle.
