A fundraising campaign for Oregon Food Bank

CANstruction organizes exhibitions and competitions featuring large-scale, whimsical sculptures crafted entirely from cans of food. After the structures are built, the are judged by a panel of architects, engineers, and contractors, and all the food is donated to Oregon Food Bank. These impressive structures will be on display at Pioneer Place Mall from September 15th to 28th.

The need for food assistance in Oregon has never been more urgent. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, our communities have survived years of job losses, economic hardship, and inflation — drivers of poverty and hunger. In response, Oregon Food Bank has effectively addressed ongoing, heightened reliance on food assistance. Yet, despite the unprecedented number of visits to our food sites in the past year, the federal administration has slashed $10 million in food and funding from OFB. These setbacks are happening at a time when Oregon is experiencing the highest hunger rates in its history, with a 31% increase in demand for food assistance over the past year.

Last year, CANstruction's 5 teams donated nearly 20,000 items of canned goods and nonperishables, totaling 19,985 pounds of food. This year, you can participate in CANstruction PDX and support your neighbors experiencing hunger by contributing to the Oregon Food Bank. Donations can be made to CANstruction as a whole, or you can donate to your favorite structure through their team page to help them secure the People's Choice Award.
