Women’s Soccer, it’s More Than A Game

Canisius Women’s Soccer, despite many restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, persevered and succeeded on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Over the past year, our team worked on consistent improvements throughout the seasons and finished with a 1-6 recordTiani Fonoti was named Rookie of the Week by the MAAC in April of this year.  Players Hope Balling, Luca Fahmer, Shauna Lee, Sydney Livermore, Abby Molloy, Hannah Morpurgo, Lexi Perry, Julia Schurr all received a grade point average of 3.20 or higher and were named to the MAAC’s Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team.  In addition, our student-athletes were one of nineteen Canisius athletic teams to achieve an average GPA over 3.0. We are proud of their continued dedication to not only their sport but also to their academic studies as well.

Despite busy schedules, our athletes got involved in a community outside of Canisius to help them become well-rounded leaders both on and off the field.  This past year our Griffs donated their time at The Foundry, a hands-on learning charity in the West side of Buffalo.  One of the pillars of Canisius, the Jesuit community, as well as our soccer program, is for our athletes to be women for and with others.  Through all their hard work and dedication they are becoming strong Griffin Leaders and setting an example for teammates and classmates alike.

Your donation to Canisius Women’s Soccer More Than A Game Campaign will help provide our student-athletes with athletic gear such as sneakers, small goals, a new Home kit, and a GK kit.  Your donation will also help us be able to purchase a refrigerator for our locker room as well as additional essential training gear.  Your donation will also help us be able to increase our travel roster for our away games.

A huge part of our success as a team is made possible by the generosity of our donors over the past year.  Your continued support allows our program to harvest an environment that encourages growth for our Griffs in the classroom, on the field, and within our community
