Our rescue just can't seem to catch a break these days. Almost every adult dog we have taken in is infected with deadly heartworm disease. Most of them have been on the slow kill method, which is doxycycline and regular monthly prevention. Several of our dogs have a heavy load of heartworms, and they are going to need to do the fast kill treatment in order to kill the adult worms more quickly before more damage is done to their hearts. We've recently lost a few of our heavy heartworm positive dogs that were on the slow kill method. It was absolutely horrible and devastating to say the least. The latest angel we lost was sweet Libby the pitbull. It was a horrible, sudden death, a horrible way to die. That being said, these 8 dogs need to receive fast kill heartworm treatment immediately. Fast kill treatment involves injections of a strong drug called immiticide into their back muscles. They have to be kept calm for 6 weeks after the injections so they will not throw a blood clot.
We are so fortunate to have an amazing vet who gives us an unbelievably low price for the fast kill injection heartworm treatment. He only charges us $250 per dog, plus the cost of 30 days of doxycycline prior ($50). That is a total of only $300 per dog. We need to raise $2400 to cover these 8 dogs who all have a heavy load of heartworms. You can make a tax deductible donation for their treatment in the following ways:
