The 5th grade at Beverly J. Martin Elementary (BJM) is excited to visit New York City on June 7th as part of our social studies' unit on immigration!
These forty-five
students will visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, two symbols of
immigration, as well as the World Trade Center, with their teachers and
aides. This trip will expand their exploration of why and how people come
to the US, what immigrants experience, and current social justice issues. For their final project, each student will interview a local person who immigrated to
the U.S.
The total trip cost
estimate is about $5,000 (entrance fees, meals, other fees, and same-day transportation--we
are not staying overnight). The students and their families have already
raised $2,500 by selling popcorn, chocolate, donuts, and hosting school dances!
They continue to raise funds, but need help closing the gap.
Please help us make this important trip possible for all our scholars!
Thank you,
Ms. Joyce Wigsten

I would like to thank all 23 donors for getting us to $1280! The students did an amazing job with their last Krispy Creme fundraiser, so we are able to close out the campaign here!
I can't wait to post some photos from the trip so you can see what great learning (and fun) happened for all 5th grade scholars on June 7th! Stay tuned...
Thanks again for helping us raise the necessary funds in such a short time. Your commitment to our community means so much to us!
