Bronx Community College’s Unity and Strength Black Faculty and Staff Association is one of the oldest professional groups at the college. Established in the early 1970’s during the height of the Civil Rights and Black Power eras, Unity and Strength sought to contribute to the fight against institutional racism and Black oppression. Its origin focused on the advancement and protection of Black and Latino faculty and staff.
Unity and Strength has supported Black students through mentoring and financial scholarships. During the COVID 19 pandemic Unity and Strength has produced or supported numerous student and faculty focused initiatives which included; Symposium on Trauma, Amadou Diallo Annual Arts and Sci-Tech Youth Symposium, “Fire Next Time” James Baldwin Discussion, and the Amadou Diallo Foundation BCC Gift Giving Tuesday campaign.
