Hoops and Swish Basketball FUN-RAISER

A new community basketball fundraising event, presented by the Greater Newburgh Rotary Club. Net proceeds will be distributed to the indicated nonprofits.

The Greater Newburgh Rotary Club, in it's Centennial Year, with its sponsored youth club Interact, presents a new community basketball event and fundraiser at Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) on Saturday, October 29th, from 9 to 12 noon.

A FUN COMMUNITY BASKETBALL COMPETITION. A basketball shooting contest, designed to involve the greater Newburgh community, as a player, backer, sponsor or nonprofit beneficiary.  Each player will be given two minutes to make as many baskets as possible.  The best shooters in each category will receive recognition at an awards ceremony and on the web, and all players will receive a commemorative T-shirt.  All ages are welcome!

FUN-RAISER. The Hoops and Swish Basketball Fun-Raiser benefits the Greater Newburgh community multiple ways.  Not only is it a healthy, clean and fun activity, especially for our youth, it also raises critical funds for local charities.  Businesses can sponsor the event, "backers" can support the players financially, players can test their prowess while raising funds for their chosen charities.  Finally, Rotary’s share of the proceeds will be contributed back to community’s non-profits/charities, consistent with the mission of the local and International Club.

BACKGROUND. This Hoops & Swish multi-faceted basketball event is modeled after a successful event run annually by the Carmel, N.Y. Rotary Club. The Newburgh President Dave Mason said, “I’m excited about “Hoops & Swish” because there are few events that contribute so much while enjoying so much good fun!  This is a great event to initiate in the Greater Newburgh Rotary Club’s Centennial Year.”

THE COMMITTEE.  Joan and Judge John Cusack are the Hoops Honorary Co-chairs as supporters of Rotary’s programs. The Rotary Committee are Chair Doug Sturomski, Dan and Karen Olson, Jeannine Miller, Dave Mason, Cathy McCarty, Joy Robertson (Interact Advisor), Lou Chappo, Bob McCurdy, Deanne Brady, Brenda Harburger, Allie Sacks,  Joshua Jones, Tom Becker, Michelle Thomas and Knut Johnsen.

ACTION TO TAKE NOW.  Sign up to participate in any number of ways.  Nonprofits looking to raise funds should sign up and assemble a team of players. Businesses looking to give back and gain valuable exposure should sign up as sponsors and assemble a team. Players should select a nonprofit team and gather supporters.  Supporters should find nonprofits or players to "back" with a financial commitment.

Talk to any Rotarian you know, or call Jeannine at 845-564-0859 for details and to express your interest in a sponsorship or participation at any level.
