Hoops N Swish Basketball FUN-RAISER 3/30/2019

The Greater Newburgh Rotary Club along with the NFA Interact Club are hosting a fun-raiser basketball event. All proceeds raised go to local charities.

A fundraising campaign for CFOS - Greater Newburgh Rotary

The Greater Newburgh Rotary Club is one of the oldest clubs now over its Century Mark working closely with its sponsored youth club Interact, presents a new community basketball event and fundraiser at Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) on Saturday, March 30th, from 9 am to 12 noon.

A FUN COMMUNITY BASKETBALL COMPETITION. A basketball shooting contest, designed to involve the greater Newburgh community, as a player, backer, sponsor or nonprofit beneficiary.  Each player will be given two minutes to make as many baskets as possible.  The best shooters in each category will receive recognition at an awards ceremony and on the web, and all players will receive a commemorative T-shirt.  All ages are welcome!

FUN-RAISER. The Hoops and Swish Basketball Fun-Raiser benefits the Greater Newburgh community multiple ways.  Not only is it a healthy, clean and fun activity, especially for our youth, it also raises critical funds for local charities.  Businesses can sponsor the event, "backers" can support the players financially, players can test their prowess while raising funds for their chosen charities.  Finally, Rotary’s share of the proceeds will be contributed back to community’s non-profits/charities, consistent with the mission of the local and International Club.

BACKGROUNDHoops & Swish is a multi-faceted basketball event is modeled after a successful event run annually by the Carmel, N.Y. Rotary Club. The Newburgh President, Deborah Sager, said “I am pleased that the proceeds will benefit Greater Newburgh children in need again this year.”  Also, I’m excited about “Hoops & Swish” because there are few events that contribute so much to the community while participants have so much good fun!  This is a great event to end the Greater Newburgh Rotary Club’s Centennial Year.”

THE COMMITTEE.  The Rotary Committee are Chair Doug Sturomski, Co-Chair Andrew Ciccone, Dan and Karen Olson, Cathy McCarty, Bob McCurdy, Dorie Driscoll, Lilly Byrnes and Knut Johnsen.

ACTION TO TAKE NOW.  Sign up to participate in any number of ways.  Nonprofits looking to raise funds should sign up and assemble a team of players. Businesses looking to give back and gain valuable exposure should sign up as sponsors and assemble a team. Players should select a nonprofit team and gather supporters.  Supporters should find nonprofits or players to "back" with a financial commitment.

Talk to any Rotarian you know, or call Doug at 845-242-5545 for details and to express your interest in a sponsorship or participation at any level.
