ATV for VINE Sanctuary

Help buy a vital piece of equipment to help care for the 500+ animals living at our 100+ acre sanctuary.

A fundraising campaign for VINE Sanctuary

VINE Sanctuary sprawls over 105 acres of wooded and mountainous terrain. Thirty cows live in the back barn, foraging in the side and upper pastures. Another twelve cows share the front barn with twelve sheep, four goats, and one pig. Hundreds of birds, including chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, guinea fowl, peafowl, pigeons, and emus, inhabit fifteen coops and aviaries divided between the upper and lower parts of the sanctuary.

With so many animals spread over so many acres, everyday tasks such as the twice daily cow count require the use of an ATV. Emergencies calling for staff or supplies to be rushed from one part of the sanctuary to another make that need even more urgent.

Unfortunately, our existing ATV is literally held together with duct tape and has a tendency to stall in wet weather. We fear that it won’t make it through the winter if we continue to use it daily as our primary ATV.

Luckily, a person in a nearby town is selling a used ATV that meets all of our needs for a very fair price.

  • This is a newer model in great shape, having seen very little use. It will last a long time.
  • This model has a higher clearance, which will allow us to go further up the rocky hills of the back pasture and be less likely to get bogged down during mud season.
  • This model has a back hitch, which will allow us to use it for hauling water buckets that sanctuary staff otherwise have to carry by hand.
  • This machine comes with a snow plow! This will allow us to plow paths we have previously had to shovel, and will also allow for quicker snow removal (with one staff member on the tractor and another on the ATV).
  • This is the same type of ATV as our existing machine, so staff members already know how to operate it.
  • With two ATVs, we will be better able to respond to emergencies, such as when a staff member on an ATV in the back pasture needs another staff member to bring first aid supplies.
Help VINE Sanctuary seize this opportunity to be better prepared for emergencies while making everyday life easier for our hard-working staff. Your investment today will aid the animals at the sanctuary for years to come!

New snowmobile is in action!

December 7, 2016

Greetings to all who contributed to VINE Sanctuary's campaign to purchase a new ATV. We got snow this week, and put the new machine to work plowing for the first time. Here's a photo of a VERY happy Cheryl, plowing while exclaiming things like "it's so easy!" and "now we can clean the barn and plow down here at the same time!"

Thanks again to EVERYONE who made this possible. It looks like we're going to be getting more snow than usual this year, so we'll probably be plowing often, in addition to using the new ATV to count the cows in the back pastures twice each day.

New Snowmobile is a Go!

November 30, 2016

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our campaign to raise the funds for a new ATV. While we didn't reach our goal, we were able to shift some funds from our vehicle repair budget to cover the gap and be able to afford the machine. We'll just need to recoup those dollars through other fundraising before the end of the year. Meantime, all of our on-site staff members are SO EXCITED about the benefits the new machine will bring, from easier everyday chores to better ability to respond to emergencies. Everybody here is so grateful to everyone who donated. We'll be sure to share photos of the new machine once it's in action, and we plan to use it to make a video just for donors once the sanctuary grounds are covered in snow. For now... THANK YOU!!!
