WITH YOUR GIFT,WE CAN BUILD A BETTER TOMORROW.
The Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) at The CUNY Graduate Center is a premier public resource dedicated to making a positive, lasting impact in the greater New York City region. Every year, early career scientists, from undergraduates through postdoctoral associates, discover new frontiers and solve urgent societal problems in our state-of-the-art research facilities. Only through your support, however, can we truly take our programming to the next level—ensuring that CUNY students, no matter their background, have access to education, training, and workforce development necessary to pursue the STEM careers of their dreams.
"This trip made me feel [like] a part of the scientific community. Being in the lab, or the field can be isolating and these moments of togetherness remind me that my effort, my labor contributes to the greater social character of science."
The above quote is from our very own JP Hellenbrand, a doctoral student in the ASRC's Environmental Sciences Initiative. JP's research investigates the impact of temperature, moisture, and leaves on the release of carbon dioxide from soil. Only through donor support was JP able to attend and present research at the Ecological Society of America's Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD this past summer.

"Watching their faces light up with curiosity reminded me why I fell in love with science in the first place. Their excitement made me hopeful for the next generation of thinkers, dreamers, and builders."
The above quote is from Natalie Kroboth, an ASRC alum who completed her post-baccalaureate research training with the ASRC's Nanoscience and Structural Biology Initiatives. Through the ASRC, Natalie was able to see chemistry through a new lens—and bring that joy of science to a younger generation. In addition to its research, training, and postsecondary education opportunities, the ASRC hosts an interdisciplinary community resource known as the IlluminationSpace Hub. Through the IS Hub's programming, largely reliant on donor support, the ASRC hosts field trips and community nights to increase the accessibility of STEM in New York City.

Through donations, the ASRC can expand programming that provides transformative hands-on experiences to the local community free of charge. Photo taken by Maria Souza courtesy of Natalie Kroboth.
