Blessed Ground, Inc. was begun after seeing the plight of the homeless folks making their home on the streets of San Antonio, after putting together a group project, collecting items for "Blessing Bags" and distributing them to folks on the streets containing toiletries, blankets, rain ponchos, snacks, water, juice and other items someone would find useful on the street. It was a humbling experience and the realization that, although the effort on our part took time and preparation, it wasn't nearly enough. The concept of Blessed Ground is to acquire and renovate a building into low income apartments with support services for the chronically homeless, mentally ill, and working poor. Those services will include, behavioral health medication management, emergency nursing services, social services, and life coaching as well as AA/NA groups, and spiritual counseling opportunities. It is independent permanent living. Each tenant will receive a key to a fully furnished apartment to transition to living in a "Place of Their Own."
We, at Blessed Ground, feel strongly that no one should be sleeping under a bridge, or on a park bench, or on concrete in front of an abandoned building, and that everyone deserves a home. It is not only beneficial to the person who receives a key to an apartment, but to the community as well since the opportunity to become a productive citizen of San Antonio is much higher with a strong foundation to pivot from. It is a win/win situation.
