We’re one month out from May 8th and 9th,
the dates for our 10th annual Women Build Weekend. And, admittedly, we’re
feeling really disappointed. We won’t be
able to gather together and experience that swarm of women volunteering,
swinging hammers, and building homes for our community as scheduled. We miss you already! Women Build is such a special time for our
Although our physical build is going to take a different shape this year – as a delayed event, as smaller gatherings later in the year, or possibly as online trainings you can watch at home – our fundraising need hasn’t changed.
Our $25,000 fundraising goal for Women Build is as critical now as ever. For a small organization like ours, that $25,000 pays our staff for a few months. It’s just about enough to purchase the next piece of property to build a home on. And, specifically, it’s the amount that we need to finish off 1928 Slaterville Road and help Paula, Dameon, Mia and Santiago move into their first home.
Although we have to put down our hammers for now, we do not have to quiet our voices. Every year we’re humbled by all of you who spread the word about our mission, donate to join us at Women Build, and then raise pledges from your friends and family to help us reach our fundraising goal. So, in lieu of the time you would’ve spent on site with us, we’re asking you to make a donation to Habitat.
We’re hoping you’ll still contribute that $25 that you would have to register the event. And, if Women Build really speaks to your heart, you can help us even more by spreading the word. You can still create a fundraising page on GiveGab to collect pledges from your friends and family. You can still request additional donations and you can help us spread the work that pulling Women Build Weekend off of our calendar is a huge loss for us. It doesn’t have to be, with your help.
