Give Back to the Southside

Give JFS the opportunity to enhance our southside location, plus provide innovative care for youth. New Hours, New Youth Services, Same Compassionate Care

A fundraising campaign for Jewish Family Service of San Antonio

Jewish Family Service of San Antonio was first established in 1973, but has called NW Military Highway "home" since 1999.

But did you know JFS has a second location?

Found on the south side of town at 1151 Mission Road, our second office has been providing mental health counseling and legal services for the past 14 years. We help children, teens, and adults – all regardless of age, economic status, religion, sexual identity, or ethnicity. We are honored to be a member of the Mission Road Collaborative—a group of organizations located within a mile of each other whose mission is to provide the best ‘corridor of care’ to the area’s neighbors. These organizations include Blessed Sacrament Academy, Parent’s Academy, Seton Home, and St. PJ’s.

Recently, JFS was the recipient of a generous grant from Valero Energy Foundation—and we have big dreams for what this means for the San Antonians who will benefit from this gift. This grant has already allowed us to expand our hours of operation from three to four days per week, and plans are underway for enhancing our current services.

In addition to these enhancements, we would also like to announce a re-branding campaign. Please allow us to introduce you to the Mission Reach Wellness & Counseling Center!

Plans for Growth

  • A bilingual therapist has been added to our staff with more on the way. This will allow us to provide counseling services to more people while eliminating the language barrier
  • Adult group therapy classes will be offered in Spanish
  • Expand our hours of operation to five days per week
  • Youth will be able to engage in Play and Art Therapy

Each month, children account for 25% of who we see, and this number continues to grow. One of our biggest goals for this year is to roll out a new and improved child-based Play Therapy program at both locations – and we need your help.

Play Therapy is a proven treatment method that allows children to communicate through play and freely express their emotional experiences. According to Psychology Today, there are many benefits to offering this kind of service including “play reveals the child’s internal emotional world, play can be deeply reparative, and can help children feel heard and seen.”

With the help of your generous donations, JFS can purchase new toys and art supplies, provide better tools and training for our counselors, and allow for more innovative approaches to care. It is only through your generosity that we can continue to provide these much-needed services and become a place known for its compassionate care.
