Hudson Valley Women in Business is a vibrant professional community of womenin the Hudson Valley region of New York State stretching from Westchester and Rockland counties all the way to Albany. On December 11th, 2017, we will be hosting our 3rd anniversary, and making a contribution to a local women's non-profit. Our beneficiary for 2017 is Grace Smith House, Inc.
With 1,200 members in the HVWiB community, if we each gave just $5, we could raise $6,000! If we each gave or raised $25, that's $30,000 for this amazing local organization!
Grace Smith House is a private not-for-profit domestic violence agency, which provides both residential and non-residential services to victims of domestic violence and their children in Dutchess County. According to the New York State Coalition Against Domestic
Violence, for the second year in a row, New York State has the highest demand for domestic violence services. In New York, 1 in 4 women will be in an abusive relationship during their lifetime. For teenager girls, the number is 1 in 3. Abuse can be physical, emotional, psychological, financial, and sexual. Domestic violence is a complex and often misunderstood issue, and we continue to fight against the self-perpetuating cycle of domestic violence in our communities.
Grace Smith House aims to break that cycle, by providing shelter, counseling, and advocay to survivors of domestic violence, both women and men, and by providing preventative education in our schools to bolster teens against dating violence.
