45th Annual Run the Bronx

A fundraising campaign for Bronx Community College

This year’s Run the Bronx will take place on Saturday, May 6th beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Since 1978, runners and walkers of all ages have been gathering on the campus of Bronx Community College (BCC) on the first Saturday in May to take part in Run the Bronx. Run the Bronx is a community health event designed to combat poor health in the Bronx and communicate the importance of a healthy and fit lifestyle.

The event was launched by former Tuskegee Airman and BCC President Dr. Roscoe Brown, whose lifelong dedication to both academic and physical fitness helped transform BCC into the cutting-edge college that it is today. Evolving through the years, Run the Bronx includes 10K and 5K runs through the Grand Concourse as well as a two-mile fitness walk to encourage physical activity at all levels and ages. The event draws over 2,000 participants mostly hailing from the Bronx but also international participants from other countries including Australia, India, the Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, and France.

It is vital to engage the Bronx youth in physical fitness and wellness to combat the poor health conditions in the community. With health promotion at the heart of the event, BCC is dedicated to raising funds to cover participation costs for PreK-12th grade students to engage them early in a healthy and fit lifestyle. Sponsors and friends of the college make this mission possible through donations, participation and are recognized as partners in BCC’s efforts to promote health and fitness borough wide.

About Bronx Community College
Bronx Community College was chartered in 1957. The college is located on 45 green acres and boasts some of the most glorious architectural gems in New York City. But it is the everyday miracles that take place inside those buildings that are the true glory of BCC, where students from a broad range of backgrounds are united by a common goal—to dream, strive, and achieve.
