2021 Cardboard Boat Race

Join us for the 3rd Annual Cardboard Boat Race on September 12, 2021

A fundraising event for Family & Children's Service of Ithaca

Event Information

Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 1:00pm - 4:30pm

Family & Children's Service of Ithaca is proud to present our Third Annual Cardboard Boat Race. The event will set sail on Sunday, September 12 from 1 PM - 4:30 PM at the Ithaca Yacht Club, and all proceeds will go to furthering our mission. This event is the only of its kind for Tompkins County and we are thrilled to be at the helm.

The event centers on a boat race that challenges teams to build boats created primarily from cardboard and duct tape that they will need to be able to get in and sail across the Ithaca Yacht Club harbor. Boats should be constructed ahead of time—teams can spend all summer perfecting a boat or 20 minutes the night before—and will need to be registered by August 30. The Cardboard Boat Race is meant to inspire people to work together, employing creativity and ingenuity, to get their boat to cross the finish line. Land lovers can come and cheer on their favorite team while enjoying great food, music, and a day by the lake.

Boat team sizes are unlimited, but all crew members will be required to purchase a spectator ticket. Spectator admission will cost $50 and includes delicious food catered by Luna and one drink ticket. Prizes will be awarded for fastest elapsed time in each bracket, the best boat and theme (as selected by popular vote), and most epic sinking. Family & Children’s Service of Ithaca is committed to providing the highest quality mental health and related social services to our entire community, and we hope you’ll join us in celebrating community mental health on September 12! We promise it’s going to be a day you won’t forget—so grab your life jacket and meet us at the Ithaca Yacht Club.

Important note about parking: The Ithaca Yacht Club parking lot will be reserved for boaters on the day of the event. Spectator parking will be available on Glenwood Road, the lower lot of the Glenwood Pines Restaurant.
