2020 Painted Trotters of Goshen Auction

The image of the standard bred trotter is Goshen's most widely identified and beloved symbol of community pride. This memorable representation of the region’s contribution to a uniquely American-born sport is kept vivid by the Historic Harness Racing Track. The Painted Trotters of Goshen are a colorful and eclectically creative seasonal reminder of this living History.
 
The Painted Trotters of Goshen is a public art project currently marking its fourth year in the Village of Goshen’s business district. The annual outdoor exhibit was first brought to fruition in 2017 by Kyle Roddey, then mayor of the Village, who enlisted as his collaborators, Illuminate Goshen and the Goshen Art League.

The elegant Trotter silhouette was designed by local graphic designer and life-long horse enthusiast, June Evers of Horse Hollow Press. Roddey secured the technical expertise of Jospeh Fedor of Goshen High School's Art And Technology department to create a template from Evers' design. Together, Roddey and Fedor and GHS students laser cut the blank trotter forms which are supplied to the artists. 

Custom wooden stands which display the Trotters, were designed by Gerry Hluchan, Ray Quattrini and Jared Quattrini, who enlist the aid of a team of volunteers from Illuminate Goshen to assemble and paint them.

Finally, the artists of the Goshen Art League are invited to bring their personal and varied styles of artistry to creating these eye-catching and uniquely Goshen works of street art.

At the end of the season, the Painted Trotters are auctioned and the proceeds partially fund the project for the following season.
