Mary Kay Deen Memorial Women Build 2015.
We will honor our friend, Mary Kay, who as a long time board member and Habitat supporter, is everything that Women Build stands for. She was a gifted teacher who believed that children who were nurtured and loved, would grow to be loving and caring themselves. She believed that a home and the security it brings, was important for families and so she supported and worked tirelessly for Habitat and it's mission of safe, affordable and decent housing for all. Women Build in particular advocates for women and children and Mary Kay always participated in some way because she believed it!
Our Bay-Waveland Women Build will be a four day event where women are welcome to volunteer for one day or more. It's an opportunity to come together with other women and advocate for decent, affordable housing for low-income families in their communities and around the world as families with children make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing. Interested in building with us? It’s always an event with lots of fun, food, and prizes and hard but satisfying work! Join us for 1 day or for all 4. Call up your girlfriends to have fun, help a family and feel good! That being said, we welcome men volunteers as well, so you can sign up the guys if you want to!
Our Women Build is especially exciting this year as it is the kick-off for our 202nd house that will be built for a local family. This house is our 10th Anniversary Reunion House and will celebrate the work that Habitat Bay-Waveland has accomplished with the help of volunteers, donors, friends and partner families since Hurricane Katrina.
Where and when
We'll meet at the job site, 671 Seal Blvd off of St. Francis Street in Bay St. Louis. 8:30 is our start time and lunch will be served. Wear close-toed shoes and bug spray and sunscreen is a good idea as are gloves. Water will be provided and you may want to bring an insulated cup or bottle. We'll have event t-shirts for you and a spot to change, as we would like everyone to be "official WB volunteers"!
If you can't build with us but would like to support this year's build and help with the funds we need for construction, please donate now! We'll recognize your contribution as a full fledged supporter of the cause!
Habitat’s National Women Build program recruits, educates, and inspires women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable homes in their communities. Lowe's is a national partner and grants a $5,000 gift card to more than 300 participating affiliates, with a total contribution of $1.75 million during National Women Build Week!
