P2P Family Giving Tradition

Help your Supporters Create a P2P Family Giving Tradition

For many families, this is the time of year to come together and give. But what if the families that already support your organization compelled others to give to you as well?

The Family Giving Tradition is probably the oldest version of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) fundraising. Your closest peers are in fact the people you are related to. And typically any ask made by someone you are close with tends to hold more weight than any other.

What if that ask was not to contribute to the family fundraiser but to become a P2P fundraiser? By leveraging their combined networks, their potential impact this giving season could be exponentially larger. It’s a win-win, as your organization receives more donations and exposure, and your supporters feel more involved and multiply their impact.

Fidelity Charitable conducted a study on Family Giving Traditions, and among many interesting results, they found that,

“45% of those who grew up with strong giving traditions donate $5,000 or more annually today vs. 36% of those who did not grow up with strong giving traditions.”

How Can You Leverage This?

Encourage your supporters, who have a strong Family Giving Tradition, to create a P2P fundraiser. Not only could it expand their individual impact, but it could also inspire other families to start traditions of their own! You can make an appeal to your supporters by prompting them to create a family P2P fundraiser using these tools on GiveGab.

A mass appeal through Facebook or Twitter could be a good place to start, but direct contact through email may elicit a greater response rate.

Try to keep the message as personal as possible and be sure to make any instructions simple and straightforward.
