On November 27, 2018, #BrooklynGives hosted their third annual Giving Day!
#BrooklynGives is Brooklyn’s first and only boroughwide 24-hour Giving Day campaign. It was created by the Brooklyn Community Foundation in 2016 to drive support for Brooklyn nonprofits on #GivingTuesday.
In previous years #BrooklynGives was limited to the 20 finalists receiving the Brooklyn Community Foundation’s Spark Prize. This year participation was open to all eligible nonprofits serving Brooklyn’s communities. Finalists for the annual Spark Prize also received a $5,000 match as part of their participation in #BrooklynGives 2018 – for a total match of $100,000.
Here is an interview with Cecilia Clarke, President & CEO of the Brooklyn Community Foundation, about the day.
Organizations with the most Most Raised and the Most Unique Donations were features on the event’s Leaderboards.
At over almost $50k, Exalt Youth ranked first for having the Most Raised!
Topping the leaderboards for having the Most Donors was Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger at over 300 unique supporters!
From the Project Manager
As project manager for #BrooklynGives, I was so thrilled to support the Brooklyn Community Foundation and its incredible staff. They expanded #BrooklynGives from 20 Spark Prize finalists in 2017 to a true borough-wide event in 2018, raising more than a half a million dollars for Brooklyn nonprofits. Under 5% of New York City’s philanthropic dollars go to Brooklyn, so the goal of #BrooklynGives is to expand awareness and giving, in Brooklyn and beyond. The Brooklyn Community Foundation is steadfast in their dedication to support nonprofits that do important work for the people of Brooklyn, many of them focused on social justice issues for underrepresented groups.
The entire GiveGab team is looking forward to seeing how #BrooklynGives grows, both in reach and impact over the next few years. We loved connecting with their incredibly engaged nonprofits and helping them reach their goals to improve the lives of Brooklynites.
