Our Team Story

The Mariposa Museum fosters peace and understanding across cultural borders through compelling exhibits, programs and performances, and regional educational partnerships. Our work since 2001 has been to provide a space -- in our heartwarming museum in Peterborough or in classrooms and partner venues across NH -- where people of all ages can explore and appreciate world of difference together. Your support will help to make possible:

1. Fall Exhibit: Immigration and Caricature: Ethnic Images from the Appel Collection explores how popular graphics from the Civil War to WWI, a period of massive immigration to the U.S. used ethnic caricature to shape American values and beliefs about multiculturalism in the U.S. Sometimes humorous, sometimes disturbing, this exhibit offers insightinto American cultural attitudes that survive in the current era.

2. Students as Teachers (see photo): a program that brings refugee high school students together with teachers in training at NH universities, to give insights to new teachers about classrooms from young people's perspective...AND to encourage students with refugee experiences to consider teaching careers.

3. Educational Programs for K-8 students, introducing young people visiting the museum or in their own small towns to a world of cultures.

4. Youth Empowered through Service (YES): a program that builds empathy and engagement as high school students in Monadnock region research and engage with non-profit causes, present to peers, and compete for a grant for their cause.
